Cath Kidston does Christmas!

Image

I love their paper bags more than anything!

I popped into Cath Kidston yesterday for a smooch around, and found a notebook that I fell for (as if I need any more). I just thought I’d to a post on it because I was blown away with their efforts to wrap and package my item so well. I was actually a little sneaky- they asked if it was a gift and I said yes… even though it’s for me. Why, I hear you ask? Well, I wanted my notebook wrapped in cute tissue paper. If you’re stuck on what to get someone for Christmas this year, I suggest having a look in your nearest branch and picking something up; they have lots to choose from, without having to break the bank (so long as you avoid the handbags). They do a wrapping service free of charge, which can’t be said for every shop. Here are some piccies:

I melted a little at this sticker.

As you can see. pretty awesome stuff. Is it just me that needs to take a moment after looking at the pages inside this notebook? I love the old-school vintage style. This was originally £8, but I got a discount on it (not quite sure how but not complaining) and it rang up on the till at £6.80. Let me know if you’ve got your eye on anything Cath Kidston… I for one am after a mug.

You Beauty Advent Calendar 2013

It’s pretty big

After reading many a blogpost about beauty advent calendars, I just knew I wanted one for myself. The thought of gaining a new beauty product (even if it’s only a small one) every day for 24 consecutive days makes me sigh with joy. There were several to choose from, but it came down to price and availability (the Boots one was gone in seconds I swear). I went with YouBeauty’s offering, after the positive reviews. Mine took 4 working days to arrive, which is ok. I’m very excited about it, and it is so hard restraining myself from opening those cute little doors.

This size of this baby is impressive, hence the picture above to show some comparison with my phone charging on the left. It is also relatively heavy, which is good- there is definitely a load of products in there. I have resisted the urge to read the magazine that came with it (containing product information) and covered my eyes when there were spoilers in some posts; I want to experience that element of surprise, like a small child opening ickle presents on Christmas day. To sum up the packaging- beautiful. I think the white works really well with the gold accents, and the white bow is just darling. The only pet peeve I have with this is the flaps on the inside being slightly ajar. No peeping, I told myself, whilst pushing them down again. I think that the cardboard doors need a little something more to keep them secure. Each compartment varies in size, which creates a rather fun guessing game as to what you think would fit into that shape of a hole. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, and can’t wait till the 1st comes around.

The You Beauty advent calendar is still available here (hurry!) for £49.95 and £4.95 p+p. Considering the contents are worth over £240, not too shabby, really. But I can understand if you find it hard to justify spending that much on an advent calendar.

And now I pose a question to you- would you like me to post everyday up to the 24th December about what is behind each door? I am happy to do it, if you’d like- let me know.

Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick

Image

Image

Image

Whilst strolling the aisles of Boots the other day for the perfect Marilyn Munroe lippie, I came across this. The shade ‘Alarm’ looked good swatched in the store, so at just £4.99 there were no second thoughts- it was already mine. I should point out that although this is marketed with a ‘smooth creamy texture’, I found it relatively creamy to apply, but the end result is quite matte. As far as pigmentation goes, I’m impressed- it is very true to colour. For the ‘intense long-lasting colour for up to 8 hours’ I would definitely be layering it to build up an opaque colour. Another feature I am partial to with this is the shape of the lipstick; the sharp point is effective for outlining the lips before filling in. I understand that for a lipstick this is quite normal, but for drugstore lip products, this isn’t always a given. Overall, a good quality lipstick for the price (God bless Rimmel for being affordable). Below you can get an idea of what it looks like on me:

Any excuse for ducklips, eh? 😉

Let me know what you think of the colour. There is a varied colour range, if you’re not into the reds- this lipstick is available here amongst it’s 9 other shades. I noticed on the website ‘Alarm’ looked on the pinky side, but as you can see form the photos above, it really isn’t very pinky. Weird.

Anyway, that wraps up today’s post. Bye for now!

Lush Wishlist

Image

Here is a list of the products from Lush I’ve got my eye on at the moment (there are many more but aint nobody got time to read a blog post that long).

1) Ginger Body Lotion– According to their website, this stuff is “easily absorbed without feeling greasy, and makes the skin feel wonderfully supple, hydrated and cared-for”- sounds good to me! This looks like the perfect moisturizer to slather on after a shower. What’s more is that the “gorgeously sexy grown-up” perfume lingers on the skin (ooh la-la!).

2) Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask– for waking up my tired, neglected skin. The reviews on this are great, and the idea of putting a pre-refrigerated (aka soothingly cold) mask on my skin at the end of a long day sounds amazing. Taken from the Lush website: “It’s hard to stick to all the rules. Eight hours sleep a night, two litres of water a day, plenty of exercise, five fruit and veg etc. This mask is for when you have overdone things and let the rules slide.” Um, YES PLEASE.

3) Santa Baby Lip Tint– I love red lips all year round, but there is something about wearing them in the Autumn/Winter that is extra special. Hopefully this is as pigmented as it looks. It makes me very uncomfortable that this is part of their Christmas stock therefore will be banished within a month or two… I may have to pick up more than one.

4) Tea Tree Water– this handy-dandy substance can be used for removing traces of face products, a quick facial refresher to cool the skin, a toner or a makeup remover. Tea tree is supposedly “a wonder oil for anyone with oily or spot prone skin” with antibacterial, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. I think it’s clear that this is needed in my life.

5) Big Shampoo– after trying out Rub Rub Rub (a salt-based shower scrub- post here) on my hair, I have decided that salt is the way to go. Big shampoo is supposed to be the ultimate product for adding volume, which is always nice- especially when the length of your hair weighs it downs into a lifeless pile of bleugh. What’s nicer is that this particular shampoo doesn’t contain any added synthetic preservatives. I’ve made a pact to cut down on putting chemical-type gunk in my hair.

6) Aqua Marina Facial Cleanser– this cleanser has emollient ingredients to soften the skin and clay powders to deep clean and absorb grease. This can be used on your body too and contains Irish moss gel, aloe vera gel, fine sea salt, sweet orange oil, calamine powder and even a sheet of nori seaweed. Creating a “huge skin sushi”. Does that not just sound like the best thing ever?

7) Marilyn Hair Treatment– If you didn’t know,I have ombre hair (a gradient from brown to blonde at le ends), and we all know that dyed blonde hair as a tendency to lose its blonde-ness. Marilyn is supposed to cancel out ‘brassy tones’ in the hair, as well as act as a pre-wash lightening treatment. The blonder my ends, the better.

8) Sea Spray Hair Mist– I have heard Zoella mention this before, and if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for me. I think salt sprays add a dose of needed texture and wave to long hair that can tend to look weighed-down and limp as mentioned before. In the past however, I’ve had issues with it making my hair feel sticky and non-brushable. I’m counting on you Lush 😉

9) Lust Gorilla Solid Perfume–  I think solid perfumes are genius for throwing in your bag or using discreetly in public. The scent for this is described as “strong, pure jasmine and warms on the skin to a seductive floral scent” and apparently lasts for hours. It’s always a disappointment when this isn’t the case with perfume or body sprays.

So that sums up my current Wishlist from the mother of all things bath and body: Lush. If (lets be honest, when) I purchase any of the products mentioned above, I’ll be sure to write about them for you all. What have you been loving recently?

Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub from Lush

Hola amigos. Today I bring you a review from a product I’ve been loving: Rub Rub Rub from Lush.

I’ve been wanting this baby for a while, but when I felt the blue substance in the shop I knew it had to be mine. It has a springy texture that is very satisfying beneath the fingers, trust me. The scent is just what you need in the shower: fresh and not overwhelming. On the pot it says that you can either apply in the shower onto wet skin, or for a more abrasive effect, on dry skin then rinse off. I personally prefer the in-shower option. A good thing about this stuff is you don’t need a huge dollop of it to cover the surface area of your body. Just a small scoop’s worth will do. I like to massage it into my arms and legs before simply rinsing under warm water. All in all, a great no-fuss shower gel replacement. It exfoliates well, resulting in baby-bottom-smoothness (who doesn’t want that?).

But there’s more. Apparently, this can also be used as shampoo- the salt is supposed to work wonders in adding volume to the hair. I have yet to try this; the idea seems a little scary- putting a salt-based product in your hair could be a little drying, no? But never fear, I’ll give it a go and keep you posted.

This 330g pot will set you back £8.35. Not insane by any means, but more than the average body wash from Boots. However, you are paying for a handmade fresh product containing 100% natural ingredients. I haven’t bought much from Lush, but I feel a Lush Wishlist post brewing… thoughts?

Starbucks & Falling Leaves

Green Beanie: New Look

Black Cardigan: Primark

Cream Jumper: Charity Shop

Black Daisy print dress (shown as a skirt): Primark

Shoes: Marks and Spencer

Tights: Lord knows

Coffee: Starbucks

I think I’m getting into this jumper-over-dress thing. Just because it’s gettin’ colder, doesn’t mean those dresses have to disappear for good. If you were wondering, my drink of choice was a ‘Toffee Nut Latte’. It was tasty, but just a warning: they go a little kray with the toffee flavouring- very sweet indeed. When my hair’s been looking flat recently, I’ve been throwing beanies on- still expressing the fluffiness of my ends but concealing the not-very-cute-ness of my roots.
